Otis Emslie, Intern Analyst
Otis Emslie joins BJH Advisors while pursuing his Master of Urban Planning at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. At Columbia, Otis has developed a cross-disciplinary focus for his degree, collaborating with planning, real estate, urban design, and architecture students on various research projects across New York City. Notably, he has worked on a plan for reinvestment in a manufacturing zone in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, proposed urban design/planning solutions to enhance the Gowanus Canal, and conducted GIS-based research analyzing the effects of NYC’s congestion zone policy on automobile commuters in Queens. Additionally, Otis is a published writer in Columbia’s URBAN Magazine, where his article on the post-pandemic retail landscape focused on retaining small businesses in city centers.
Prior to joining BJH, Otis worked as a real estate consultant for Delta Associates in Washington, DC, providing research and advisory services to developers, higher education institutions, and governmental agencies. He advanced from intern to senior associate in this position, engaging in market studies, entry strategies, and quarterly multifamily market reports for local and national clients. He also worked as a housing representative for NorthStar Real Estate Services, coordinating redevelopment oversight of 3,000 Harvard University graduate housing units.
Otis graduated with honors from The George Washington University, where he was active in the Commercial Real Estate Network and served as a volunteer researcher for an urban design consultancy, mapping equitably developed affordable housing communities across the US. He has experience with ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and SketchUp.
