Lola Charles, Intern Analyst

Lola is a Fall Intern at BJH Advisors and a master’s student in Urban Planning at Columbia University. Lola graduated from the University of Southern California in 2022 with a B.S. in Business Administration and a minor in Sustainable Urban Planning. As a native New Yorker, Lola brings an interdisciplinary background spanning urban planning, landscape architecture, real estate, and digital marketing to her work.

At Columbia, Lola’s interests center on the relationship between the built environment, real estate, and patterns of neighborhood change. She is currently writing her graduate thesis to examine how social media platforms and increased digital visibility influence neighborhood change and gentrification, with a particular focus on how neighborhood amenities and commercial spaces are perceived, marketed, and consumed.

Prior to joining BJH Advisors, Lola spent two years as a Studio Assistant at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, a landscape architecture and urban design firm, where she contributed to proposal development, site analysis and environmental research, visual communications, and building scale models. Her experience at MVVA provided exposure to projects at a range of scales and strengthened her interest in the intersection of design, planning, and real estate development. Lola’s broader professional experience includes internships in real estate development, residential real estate, and digital marketing. Across these experiences, she has developed a multidisciplinary perspective on how places are planned, developed, marketed, and experienced.
