Kings Park Downtown Revitalization Initiative

BJH has a 5-year contract with the New York State Department of State (DOS) to provide planning services to Long Island for the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). Through the DRI and New York Forward programs, the State of New York awards approximately $200 million annually to at least 20 communities statewide. Under the DRI, BJH serves as the prime consultant for DOS, managing a multi-disciplinary team that developed a DRI Strategic Action Plan for the communities of Westbury, Amityville, Huntington Station, Hempstead, and Kings Park on Long Island.

BJH leads a planning team in coordinating a committee of local stakeholders, executing public engagement events, studying existing conditions, and helping the community identify projects to help bring about the revitalization of the downtown. Once the community identifies potential projects, BJH and its team prepare an implementation plan that identifies the cost of the project, regulatory processes, and partners to implement each of the projects. BJH also performs services as a subconsultant for DRI and New York Forward plans in other regions of New York State, including the Capital Region, Southern Tier, and Western New York.
