New York City Housing Supply Study
BJH Advisors engaged with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and the Mayor's Office on a comprehensive housing supply study. This study involved analyzing several strategies for increasing housing supply across the city, including through the Educational Construction Fund, establishing a Housing Trust Fund, Office to Residential Conversion, Accessory Dwelling Units, and various financial analyses. BJH, with partners from FX Collaborative and BAE, examined the potential for residential development at public sites, considering factors like zoning requirements, potential unit yields, and the complexity of development. The analysis included evaluating different development scenarios—such as as-of-right development, discretionary actions requiring relocation of existing uses, and the impact of potential rezoning. This meticulous study provided the city with valuable insights into maximizing housing production efficiently, which is crucial for addressing the pressing need for more housing in New York City and reaching Mayor’s moonshot goal of producing 500,000 new units over the next decade.
